This lightly spiced and tangy sauce is a great finish for an authentic Memphis style experience.
Ingredients
- 1/2 tbsp. unsalted butter
- 1/2 small onion, diced
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup of tomato sauce
- 1/8 cup cider vinegar
- 1/8 cup rice vinegar
- 1/8 cup molasses
- 1 tbsp. Worcestershire
- 1 tbsp. dark brown sugar
- 1 tsp. yellow mustard
- 1 tsp. hot sauce
- 1 tsp. kosher salt
- 1 tsp. ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
Method
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Once melted, add onion and garlic. Sweat on medium heat.
- Once the onion is translucent, add tomato sauce, cider vinegar, rice vinegar, molasses, Worcestershire, brown sugar, mustard, hot sauce, salt, pepper, and cayenne. Stir to combine all ingredients and allow to come to a boil before reducing the heat to a simmer.
- Stir the sauce occasionally until it has slightly thickened. Place sauce in a blender and blend until smooth.
