Beef Gravy

A delicious breakfast gravy where the beef in this recipe can be replaced with pork sausage if desired.

Ingredients

  1. 2 lbs. ground beef
  2. 1/2 an onion
  3. 2 tbsp. butter
  4. 2 tbsp. flour
  5. 2 cups milk
  6. 2 ounces black pepper
  7. kosher salt, to taste
  8. 1 bay leaf
  9. 1 tbsp. hot sauce
  10. 1 tsp. sage

Method

  1. Pre-heat grill to 450 degrees using indirect heat. Place sauce pot on egg and allow to heat up. Dice onion and place in the pot alongside the groundbeef.
  2. When the beef is browned and the onion is softened, add butter and flour while stirring continuously to avoid the flour from clumping.
  3. Once the flour and butter are combined, slowly add the milk while stirring.
  4. Add the bay leaf and the sage to allow the gravy to simmer for about 20 minutes to cook out the flour taste.
  5. Finish gravy with hot sauce, salt, and pepper. Remove bay leaf and the gravy will be ready to serve.
