A delicious breakfast gravy where the beef in this recipe can be replaced with pork sausage if desired.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. ground beef
- 1/2 an onion
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 2 tbsp. flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 ounces black pepper
- kosher salt, to taste
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tbsp. hot sauce
- 1 tsp. sage
Method
- Pre-heat grill to 450 degrees using indirect heat. Place sauce pot on egg and allow to heat up. Dice onion and place in the pot alongside the groundbeef.
- When the beef is browned and the onion is softened, add butter and flour while stirring continuously to avoid the flour from clumping.
- Once the flour and butter are combined, slowly add the milk while stirring.
- Add the bay leaf and the sage to allow the gravy to simmer for about 20 minutes to cook out the flour taste.
- Finish gravy with hot sauce, salt, and pepper. Remove bay leaf and the gravy will be ready to serve.
