Spice Rubbed Grilled Hanger Steak

Nutritional Information

This steak is rubbed with a wet rub and marinaded overnight which tenderizes the steak and enhances the flavor.


  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ancho chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 3 pounds hanger steak


  • 1. In a small bowl, mash together garlic and salt with the back of a fork. Mix in the spices. Pour in olive oil and blend until a thick paste forms.
  • 2. Marinade: Rub paste over all sides of steak. Cover steak and let marinate in the refrigerator overnight.
  • 3. Preheat the Egg to 425º using direct heat and a cast iron grate. Grill the steaks for 2-3 minutes per side or until desired temperature. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
  • 4. To serve, slice steak across the grain in 1/2 inch strips, season to taste
