Root Beer Beans

Add root beer to your baked beans to change up a classic summer favorite!

Ingredients

  • 3 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 16 ounce cans beans, drained
  • 1/2 cup root beer
  • 1/4 cup favorite bbq sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • hot sauce, as desired
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Directions

  • 1. Preheat the EGG to 400º using indirect heat and a preheated cast iron dutch oven.
  • 2. Cook bacon in the dutch oven until crisp; remove and drain on paper towels, reserving 2 tablespoons drippings in skillet. Sauté diced onion in hot bacon drippings in skillet over high heat 5 minutes or until tender.
  • 3. Stir together onion, crumbled bacon, beans, and remaining ingredients in the dutch oven. Bake beans, uncovered, at 400° for 55 minutes or until sauce is thickened.
