King David Hot Dog Melts

Nutritional Information

This hot dog is bursting with flavor, stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon and topped with coleslaw.


  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1/4 cup drained prepared horseradish
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 head savoy cabbage thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 1/2 shallots thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • to taste Salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 6 ounces Gruyère cheese, grated
  • 6 all-beef hot dogs, slit lengthwise
  • 6 thin slices of lean bacon
  • 6 small hot dog buns


  • 1. Preheat the one EGG to 425° using direct heat and a cast iron grate. Preheat one other EGG to 400° using indirect heat.
  • 2. In a small bowl, combine the cabbage, mayonnaise, sour cream, horseradish, mustard, honey, shallots and lemon juice and season with salt and pepper.
  • 3. Grill hot dogs approx 2 min a side just to lightly char, pull off and cut a slit in each dog. Place cheese in the center of each splayed hot dog. Wrap a slice of bacon around each hot dog and secure it with toothpicks.
  • 4. Arrange the hot dogs on a rimmed baking sheet and bake until the bacon is crisp, about 15 minutes. Place each hot dog in a bun and serve with cole slaw on top.
