Classic Potato Salad

Nutritional Information

This is a recipe for the old fashioned potato salad.


  • 3 pounds small potatoes, cut halves or quarters for the larger ones
  • kosher salt and pepper, as needed
  • 1 cup mayo
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 4 tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup fresh dill, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped red onions


  • 1. Preheat the EGG to 400º using direct heat, a cast iron grate. Grill the potatoes until char marks form, about 4 minutes per side. Remove from the grill and convert to indirect heat.
  • 2. Roast the potatoes for 30-45 minutes or until fork tender.
  • 3. Combine the remaining ingredients and season to taste as desired. Toss the potatoes in the dressing when the potatoes are still warm but not piping hot. Serve immediately.

Variation: For the 'Wiched Class on 10/28/14, potatoes were served with a ranch-like dressing: omit the dijon mustard, dill, celery and onions. add the following: 2 tablespoons of fresh herbs 2 teaspoons fresh thyme 2 garlic cloves, minced Follow instructions as directed.
