Chocolate Buttercream

This buttercream is rich, dense and delicious!


  • 4 ounces unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar, powdered
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • a pinch of salt


  • 1. In an electric mixer, with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and confectioners sugar for about 3 minutes. Add the whipping cream, water, vanilla, and salt and whip on medium speed until smooth and fluffy for about 5 minutes. Spread between the layers of cake. This frosting is best used immediately.
